Obituary of Josephine Gallo

Please share a memory of Josephine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Josephine Rosaria Gallo, of Manhasset and Windham, NY, died June 14, 2014 at Glen Cove Hospital, surrounded by her family. Josephine was born in Brooklyn, to her parents, the late Justin and Concetta Favaro, and loving brother, Biagino Favaro. Josephine attended Bay Ridge High School, and graduated from Hessley and Brown Business School. In 1954, Josephine married Arnold Gallo, at St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Josephine worked as a buyer for Rose Cloak and Suit Company for over twenty years, where she made good use of her impeccable taste and shrewd bargaining skills. In 1955, Josephine became a mother for the first time, and found her true vocation: raising her four boys. In 1961, Josephine and Arnold moved the family to Manhasset, where they have lived ever since. Josephine took great joy in welcoming friends and family into her home. She was a gifted painter and cook, and she especially loved to do both with her grandchildren. Everyone who has eaten at her table has a different favorite dish, and she was renowned by three generations of hungry skiers for her lunches served to friends and family at the base of Windham Mountain Ski Resort. A devout Catholic, Josephine has been an active parishioner at St. Mary’s Church, for over 50 years. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Rosary Society, and proudly served as a Eucharistic Minister at both St. Mary’s Church and St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn. In 2012, Josephine became a Lady in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. Josephine is survived by her husband of sixty years, Arnold of Manhasset, her four adoring sons and their families: David and Kathleen of Manhasset, and their children, Hilary, Peter, and Stephanie; Richard and Maureen of Norwood, N.J., and their children Meghan, Justin, and Christina; Joseph and Agnes of Mineola, and their children Stephen, Lillian, and Diana and her husband Daniel Gallagher, and their children Ryan, Leah, and Emily of Abington, PA; and Michael and Pamela of Manhasset, and their children, Alexandra, Lindsay, and Meredith. Arrangements have been made at Fairchild and Sons Funeral Home, Sunday June 15, 6-9, Monday June 16, 3-5, 7-9, Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday June 17, 10:00am Church of St. Mary, Manhasset, NY In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Josephine’s memory to the Outreach Ministry Center of the Church of Jesus of Nazareth, located in Xaghra, Gozo, Malta.
