Obituary of Charles Loughlin

Charles James Loughlin, of Port Washington, NY, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on May 11, 2024 at age 95. Charlie was born in Ballinaglera, Co. Leitrim, Ireland on December 11, 1928 to Anne (McGourty) and Andrew Loughlin. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bridie, his children, Tricia Loughlin, Brian Loughlin and daughter-in-law Marybeth Loughlin, grandchildren Ciara, Brigid and Maeve Loughlin, and many nieces and nephews around the world. He is predeceased by his parents and seven siblings.
Charlie came to America in 1955 and settled in Manhattan, NY. He worked as a steamfitter for 31 years and was a proud member of Steamfitters Local 638. Charlie and Bridie lived in East Brunswick, NJ for 47 years where they raised their family and were parishioners of St. Thomas the Apostle Church before relocating to Long Island to be close to family. In his retirement, Charlie continued to take loving care of his house and yard with MacGyver-like resourcefulness. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, traditional Irish music and traveling with Bridie, especially their two cruises in Alaska.
Charlie was a man of few words but spoke volumes through his actions and love of family. He was quick to smile and lend a helping hand. Charlie was proud of his family. He will be missed.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses at Northwell’s Hospice Care Network and Hospice Inn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org)
