Obituary of Mary K. Ronan

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Kathleen Ronan, aged 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Port Washington on March 28, 2024.

Born November 29, 1929 in Manhattan to Bessie and Edward McGuire, Mary was raised in Corona, Queens. She married the love of her life, Daniel Ronan, on June 16, 1951, and together they shared 41 happy years before his passing in 1992. Initially settling in Whitestone, they later fulfilled their dream by building a home in Upper Brookville in 1965, where they lovingly raised their eight children.

Mary, an only child, was known for her devotion to the large close-knit family she and Dan put so much care and effort into building. They shared a legendary marriage filled with love, respect, and laughter. Mary hosted countless holidays in Brookville and at their summer home in Montauk for their growing family. She was an organized hostess who loved to bake and created many family traditions. Her time in Montauk, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, was deeply treasured. Her enjoyment of sitting down for tea, engaging in conversation, and celebrating birthdays all fostered deep connections with friends and family there.

Mary was gracious to everyone she met and possessed a quiet strength. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her will always remember her style, compassion, and kindness.

Mary leaves behind her beloved children, John, Donna Donnelly, Debbie Kennedy (Beth Yocum), Daniel (Kate), Kathy Bartley (Peter), Susan O’Connell (Daniel), Tim (Donna), and Jennifer Garcia (Jorge), her cherished grandchildren Terence, Joseph, Victoria, Olivia, Grant, Jessica, Kristyn, Marissa, Ryan, Sean, Michaela, Conor, Bridget, Elizabeth, James, Devon, Bryn, Owen, Molly, Daniel, Jack, Moira, Carly, Quinn, Sean, Riley, Ronan, Shea, and Nolan. She also had the good fortune to have welcomed 13 great-grandchildren into her family, Logan, Brooke, Lucka, Georgia, Sebastian, Ellie, Ronan, Moira, Maeve, Alaire, Grace, Asher, and Charlotte.

The family would like to thank Mary’s caregivers Rosa, Maureen, Toya, and Dahlia, as well as Hospice, for the help and comfort they have provided the last few years.

Visitation will be held at Fairchild Sons in Manhasset on April 4th from 4 to 8pm. A funeral mass will be held on April 5th at 11am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Port Washington. Those who wish, may donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Mary’s name.
