Obituary of Angeles Portela

Please share a memory of Angeles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Angeles Portela, a beacon of love, devotion, and generosity, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her adoring family on December 1, 2023. Born on July 1, 1933, in the vibrant city of Sevilla, Spain, to Telmo and Enriqueta Silva, Angeles was the beloved sister of John and the cherished wife of Serafin for over 50 years.

Angeles and Serafin's love story began in the bustling streets of New York City, where they met and fell in love. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Lucia and Daniel, who in turn gave Angeles the joy of being a grandmother to Gabriel, Nicolas, Daniel Jr., and Alexander. Angeles was a homemaker par excellence, her home was always a warm and welcoming haven. She was a master of many arts, her hands were rarely still, whether she was gardening, cooking up a storm, or crocheting intricate designs. Her love for her birthplace was evident in her passion for traveling back to Spain, a country she held dear to her heart.

Her kindness was legendary, her generosity knew no bounds, and her caring nature made her a favorite among all who knew her. Her charm was infectious, and her laughter was the sweetest melody. Angeles taught us the importance of family values and the virtue of patience, lessons that will be carried forward by those who loved her.

Her life was a testament to her three defining qualities: she was loving, a devoted wife, and generous beyond measure. Angeles was a woman who lived her life with grace and dignity, and her memory will forever be a treasure in the hearts of those who knew her.

A wake will be held for Angeles at Fairchild Sons Manhasset on December 5, 2023, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at 1570 Northern Blvd, Manhasset, NY. A Mass will be held in her honor at St. Mary's Church on December 6, 2023, at 10:15am at 1300 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, NY. Entombment will follow immediately after the mass at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 2030 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY.

The best way to honor Angeles' memory is by showing kindness to those around you, just as she would have done. Her spirit lives on in the love she shared and the lives she touched.

As we bid farewell to Angeles, let us remember her with joy and celebrate the beautiful life she lived. Her legacy of love, devotion, and generosity will continue to inspire us all.
