Obituary of Michael Bavaro

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Bavaro Sr.
Passed away peacefully at Regency Assisted Living in Glen Cove on September 22, 2023 after battling Parkinson’s disease. Born August 10th, 1938 to Olga and Michael (Mickey) Bavaro.  Michael was a successful businessman, took over from his father and grew a construction company (City & County Paving Corp.) from a young age with a passion and brilliant mind for the paving industry and operating equipment and machinery.  The family business is now in its third generation, owned and run by his loving son Michael Jr. and cousin Frank Lovaglio.  Growing up in Springfield Gardens Queens, Michael was an impressive athlete as a basketball and baseball player, even being invited to try out for the Brooklyn Dodgers.  He was a proud member of the National Guard, enjoyed the Mets, Jets, boating, fishing, dancing, 50’s music, swimming in the ocean, trips to Florida to visit family, great food, and so much more.
In his retired years since 2003, Michael enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling with his wife Amy, watching the Mets (win or lose), spending time at family gatherings and at his grandchildren’s many sporting and school events as he’d cheer them on with a smile on his face and love and pride in his heart.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife Amy Bavaro, son Michael Bavaro Jr. and daughter-in-law Christina Bavaro, son Gerald Bavaro and daughter-in-law Jennifer Bavaro, grandchildren Emma Bavaro (19), Claudia Bavaro (14), Evelyn Bavaro (13), Benjamin Bavaro (11), step-sons Robert Vultaggio and Michael Vultaggio, and loving brother Steve Bavaro.  Michael is also predeceased by sisters Mary-Ann Bavaro and Santa Bavaro.
Visitation is from 4:00pm - 8:00pm, Tuesday 9/26. The Funeral Mass will be at  Wednesday 9/27 10:15AM at St. Mary's of Manhasset. Interment to follow at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington.
