Obituary of Margaret Ann Hyland

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret Hyland, 85, of Great Neck, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 13th, 2023.

Margaret was born on February 16, 1938, to Warren and Juliette McPhillips in Jackson Heights, NY. After graduating from High School, she went on to study accounting at New York University.

Margaret met Robert Hyland through mutual friends. They immediately hit it off and married in 1959.  They moved into their Great Neck home shortly after and had the first of their four children, Robert, in 1960.  Their second child, William was born in 1964 followed by their third Julianne in 1966 and fourth Maryellen in 1971.

When Margaret had Robert, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. Margaret excelled at supporting each of her children in school, sports and encouraging them to chase their dreams. Margaret supported her family through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. Whether that was playing chauffeur, cheerleader, or short order cook, she made it her mission to improve their lives.  She will be remembered by her children for her never-ending love and support.

Margaret was passionate about planning events that celebrated life.  She loved weddings and children and helped so many families and friends plan their weddings, bridal and baby showers.  She loved the work and the joy it brought to others.   She will be remembered by many for helping them celebrate milestones in their lives with a wonderful sense of style, warmth, and kindness. We will miss her greatly.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents Warren and Juliette, brother Warren and loving husband Robert. She is survived by her four children Robert Hyland, William Hyland, Julianne Wallace, and Maryellen Vescovi, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

If you wish to express your sympathy it is the family’s request that you consider a donation to St. Francis Hospital in Margaret’s memory. The family will be forever grateful for the care provided by the staff at the hospital.
