In Memory of Lena Armata

1930-2023

With a heavy heart we announce the passing of Lena Armata (née Neri) on February 20, 2023 in the loving presence of her adult children at home.

Lena (Lee) was born on May 31, 1930, one of five children born to Pasquale and Vincenza Neri, in the town of Glendale, Queens, New York. Lee met and then married Nicholas Armata on March 30, 1956. Theirs was an epic love story that will continue as they are finally reunited in Heaven. Together, Lee and Nick have three children, Christopher Armata, Nicola A. Nolan (David) and Paul Armata (Katia).

Lee was affectionately known as “Nana” to 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Lauren, David, Nicholas, Chelsea, Michael, Manuela and Luca. Lena was “GiGi” to her 5 great grandchildren, Joey, Mikey, Tommy, Lena and Christopher.

Lee was a force of nature with the innate ability to bring out the best in everyone filling them with her precious, inimitable spirit. A woman of strong faith, Lee’s legacy is one of great family ties, love, friendship, old movies, theater, Jeopardy, and great food! Everyone blessed to have known her can trace their own best traits to their interactions with Lee. Together with her late husband Nick, they anchored the family with their warmth, hospitality and generosity and frequent gatherings. She will be missed by all who knew her including her immediate family, many nieces and nephews, and countless lucky enough to be in her universe of friends.

Please join us in celebrating Lee, visitation will be on Friday, February 24, from 4-8PM at Fairchild Sons in Manhasset. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday, February 25th 9:30 am at St. Peter of Alcantara Church in Port Washington. Burial will follow immediately at Locust Valley Cemetery.
