Obituary of Margaret E. Flynn

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret “Peggy” Elizabeth Hooper Flynn peacefully passed from this life to the next on Sunday, May 1, 2022. She was 94 years old. Peggy was a 64-year resident of Manhasset, New York, where she raised her four children with her loving husband, Robert Hamilton Flynn. Robert passed away in February, 2018 after 62 years of marriage to his dear wife.

Peggy was born in Sands Point, New York in April, 1928 to Ernest C. Hooper, a stone mason and Sands Point, New York police officer, and Katie Brennan Hooper.

Some of her fondest memories were her long bus rides each day to Saint Dominic High School in Oyster Bay and the many friends she made along the way. She excelled in her academics at Saint Dominic. After high school graduation, she enrolled at the School of Nursing at The College of Mount St. Vincent in the Bronx and was a proud member of the graduating class of 1949. She immediately went to work at St. Vincent Hospital in Greenwich Village and did stints as well at Bellevue and Flower Fifth Avenue Hospitals. She married Robert H. Flynn of Little Neck in 1956.

While raising a family, she returned to school and earned a graduate degree in Nursing from Adelphi University and worked up to Director of Infection Control at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn. She was a member of the Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and other professional associations.

She is survived by her four children, Maura C. Flynn, Christopher E. Flynn, Hill H. Flynn, and Geoffrey J. Flynn, and their partners, Thomas Arcidiacono, Wendy Liff-Flynn, Demielo C. Luckette, and Anne Marie Flynn; nine grandchildren: Emilie Flynn, Julia Flynn, Christine Arcidiacono, Audrey Flynn, Edward H. Flynn, Francesca Arcidiacono, Theresa Arcidiacono, Lydia Flynn, and Claire Flynn, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald C. Flynn and Reina Flynn.

Peggy loved her family, and she cherished the family’s annual August vacation at Lake Dunmore in Vermont. She also loved to travel through Europe and relaxed with Robert on an annual cruise through the Caribbean. Her love of travel started with cross-country car trips to California, Mount Rushmore, and Miami Beach with her dear Mount Saint Vincent friends in 1949 and 1950. She was also a very competitive bridge player.

Her Christian faith was unshakeable. She was known for integrity, trust and hard work and she was a fierce advocate for her family and friends.

Visitation on Friday, May 6 at Fairchild Sons on Northern Boulevard in Manhasset and Service will be at the Church of Saint Mary in Manhasset on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 10:15AM.
