Obituary of Margaret L. Kennedy

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret (Peggy) L. Kennedy died peacefully in Los Angeles on July 25, 2018. She was born in Bayside, New York on December 20, 1925 to Helen and John Kennedy. She was preceded in death by Kevin, her husband of 47 years, and her brother Maryknoll missionary Father John F. Kennedy.

Peggy, whose maiden name was Kennedy, and Kevin crossed paths as 10-year-olds when they were each playing the same piece at a piano recital in Douglaston. Years later, a mutual friend suggested that Peggy write to Kevin while he was stationed in Germany during WWII. They married soon after his return. She never had to change her name. They spent most of their adult life in Port Washington, where they raised their seven daughters in a pink house and drove them around town in a pink station wagon. Four years ago, she moved to Los Angeles to be closer to three of her daughters and their growing families.

A graduate of St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in New York City, Peggy worked as an RN at Sands Point Nursing Home for many years. She was very involved in the St. Peter of Alcantara parish, where her daughters attended school. Peggy selflessly volunteered for many of the organizations that her daughters joined - including countless Brownie and Girl Scout troops, the Manorhaven Swim Team and ice skating lessons. She traveled the world with Kevin, and later with her daughters and extended family members. Later in life, Peggy was fulfilled by the work she did as a volunteer with the St. Peter’s Ministry of Consolation and as a Volunteer Advocate/Ombudsman for Nursing and Adult Home residents and their families through the Ombudservice Program of Suffolk County. Peggy never met a crossword puzzle she couldn’t finish. A dedicated and kind mother, she relished her role as "Nan" to her 13 grandchildren and "Super Nan" to her 6 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her seven daughters Virginia Kennedy, Elizabeth Kennedy, Sheila Kennedy, Anne Kennedy, Peggy Kennedy, Patty Kennedy and Terry (Kennedy) Tolley; her sons-in-law Rick Roberts, Aidan Moore, Vince Pavelock and Ed Tolley; her 13 grandchildren Meghan Conway Andersen and Patrick Conway (Alex) - Virginia’s children; Matthew, Emily Roberts Green (Ryan), and Annis Roberts - Elizabeth and Rick’s children; Kevin and Aidan Moore – Sheila and Aidan’s children; Scott Falconer (Lindsay) and Grace Falconer – Peggy’s children; Devin Kennedy Pavelock – Patty and Vince’s child; and Perry, Maggie Tolley, and Reid Tolley –Terry and Ed’s children; her 6 great grandchildren Emma and Claire Andersen; Harper, Finley, and Beckett Green; and Scott Falconer, Jr.; and her sister-in-law Jeanne Scobbo (Ron).
