Obituary of Joseph R. Giaccone

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph Richard Giaccone (1921-2017) The world got a little emptier – but heaven became a little more fun – with the sad departure of Joseph R. Giaccone, 95, who passed away in the loving arms of his family on January 11, 2017. Born on September 8, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York, Joseph (‘George’ to friends and family) possessed a kindness and generosity of spirit matched only by his incredible sense of humor and lightning-fast wit. He was the life of the party and loved by all. A graduate of Queens College and Commander of Mine Sweepers in Europe during World War II, George came home to court and marry Perry – the love of his life, babe of all time and devoted wife of 67 years. Together they raised a family of four children. George went on to build a successful career in the decorative fabrics industry in New York City – retiring as an owner in the company. Perry and George literally danced through life, traveling the world, taking the children along for the rides of their lives – laughing all the way! Son of Giuseppe and Adelina Giaccone and brother of Evelyn, Frank and Dorothy, George is survived by his beautiful and adoring wife Perry, his four children: Susan (and her husband Will and their son Perry); Joseph, Jr. (and his wife Tracy and their children Kevin, Trevor and Taylor); Barbara and her son Christopher; and Michael (and his wife Corinne and their children Nicole and Kevin). Joe/George/Dad/Poppi was unforgettable – a man without peer. He will be cherished forever in our minds and hearts and eternally remembered with a wink and a smile. George will be waked at Fairchild Funeral Home, 1570 Northern Blvd., Manhasset, New York on Friday, January 13 from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 1321 Port Washington Blvd., Port Washington, NY. Entombment will immediately follow at Nassau Knowles Cemetery, across the street at 500 Port Washington Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St Jude's Children's Research Hospital : (800) 822-6344 for donor information. www.stjude.org
