Joan M. Calame died at home in Vero Beach, FL surrounded by family on May 30, 2016. Born in Brooklyn on July 30, 1927 to George and Isabelle Healy and raised in Garden City, she graduated from Trinity College, Washington, DC and earned a Masters from Teachers College, Columbia. Joan retired from teaching high school English to raise her children. A gifted artist who loved golf, singing, travel, and hosting parties and family dinners, she will be remembered for her sense of style, quick wit, unforgettable turns of phrase, knowledge of art and literature, and deep affection for her family. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard J. Calame MD, and her children David, Sally and Richard, her daughter-in-law Mara, five grandchildren and one great-grandson. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on June 11, 2016 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Manhasset.
