Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betty MCELYNN 4 Aug 20- 7 May 16 Betty Frances MCELYNN, a native of Australia and a resident of the United States since 1945, passed peacefully May 7th - surrounded by her family. She is survived by seven children, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Her husband of forty six years, Philip, predeceased her in 1990 as did her son, Lance Corporal Thomas, USMC, in 1967. Betty grew up near the Murray River in New South Wales, Australia. She married a United States Marine during WW II, at age 24, and came to the United States in 1945, settling in Springfield Gardens NY. She was also a resident of Laurelton NY, Baldwin NY, and Lake Panamoka, Wading River, NY, and Freeport, NY. Her final years were spent in Port Washington NY. While her children were young, Betty was active in church and school activities at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Springfield Gardens, NY. Summer was a favorite season, spent at "The Lake", accompanied by friends, family and assorted visitors from near and far. There were many chapters in the book of Betty's life and at its' end, there is a sense of deep satisfaction among her surviving family members that it was a life well and fully lived. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Francis Hospital.
