Obituary of Sanford Weinberg

Please share a memory of Sanford to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sanford Weinberg, known to friends as Sonny or Sandy, was born on Christmas Day 1933. He was born and raised in the Bronx by his mother and father, Elias (Al) and Dorothy ("Dot" née Penny). His brother Ira (Mike) lived at home until both chose to serve in the military. Sanford served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and received an Honorable Discharge in 1958. He took college courses to prepare for a career in finance and began work at Rothchild & Rothchild when he met Bernadette Smith. They were married in January of 1963 and had their first son Michael in 1965. 2 years later their second son, Steven, was born. In 1968, his wife of 5 years passed away leaving him with 2 young children. Faced with the thought of foster care or putting them for adoption, he asked his parents to help raise them. in 1976, Sanford and his sons moved to Flushing Queens, where he lived until he passed on April 28, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Sanford, also known as Grandpa Clowns due to his love of clowns and the circus, left behind his son Steven, his wife Adela and three granddaughters (Maria, Luisa and Lynda) and his son Michael, his wife Christina and their three children, Brendan, Emily and Elizabeth, as well as our cousin Howie Gottfried, his wife Sandy and their sons Todd and Ian. He will be missed by family and friends and will be remembered for his humor, "tenacity" and his love of photography.
