Stephen J. Gulotta, MD passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024. He was 91 years old.

Dr. Gulotta was born on March 5, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, the youngest of five children to Dora and Vito Gulotta. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Hospital in 1961,and completed a fellowship in Cardiology at New York Hospital/Cornell in 1962. He joined the medical staff at Montefiore Hospital in 1962, and was appointed the Director of the Cardiopulmonary Laboratory at Triboro Hospital that same year.

In 1970, Dr. Gulotta was recruited as the Chief of Cardiology at North Shore University Hospital, a position that he held until 1979, when he was appointed the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at St. Francis Hospital and Heart Center in Roslyn, NY, where he was an instrumental force behind St. Francis’ rise to national prominence. He was active in the American Heart Association throughout his career, serving on the Board of Directors for the Westchester Heart Association, the Nassau Heart Association, and the NY State Affiliate of the AHA,  ultimatelyserving as President of the NY State Chapter from 1982-1983. In recognition of his tireless services to the AHA, he was honored with their Distinguished Service Award in 2000. He remained at St. Francis until his retirement at the end of 2014, just shy of his 82nd birthday, and was beloved by his colleagues, hospital staff, and patients alike.

In 1954, Dr. Gulotta married his high school sweetheart, Lee, and together they raised three sons, traveled extensively, and enjoyed the arts, skiing and anything that placed them in the company of family and friends.
