Obituary of Rita Rottmund

Please share a memory of Rita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rita Rottmund, formerly Rita Mastoloni, long term resident of Munsey Park, Manhasset and Quogue NY, passed away peacefully at 96 on February 18th, 2024. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, on April 17th, 1928, to Frank and Adele Mastoloni. She is predeceased in death by her brothers Ralph, Frank and Raymond Mastoloni.  She was married to John Rottmund on May 19th, 1956, before his passing in 2002 and together they raised their four daughters, all who attended Saint Mary’s Schools.

Rita began her career as a New York City Public School teacher and is fondly remembered as a talented and compassionate artist, avid golfer, and tennis player.  She and her husband, John were longtime members of Plandome CC and dedicated parishioners of Saint Mary’s RC church. She was known for her sense of humor, artistic talents, and, above all, her love for her family.

She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses, Louise Pashcow (Alan), of Brookville, NY; Eleanor Hannon, (John), of Manhasset, NY; Francine Pender (Eric), of Medfield, MA; Christine Shaw of Ridgewood, NJ, her brother, Edward Mastoloni of Greenwich, CT and her dedicated and loving care giver of 8 years, Halcy Dixon.

Rita was the proud grandmother of Briana McCarthy (Patrick), Shannon Nalaboff (Sean), Katherine Hannon, John Hannon IV, Ava Pender, Alyssa Pender, Nicole Pender Dudock (Garrett), Emily Shaw, Olivia Shaw, and Annie Shaw. She was also a great-grandmother to Grayson McCarthy, Nolan McCarthy, Ellie Nalaboff, McKenna Nalaboff, and Rory Dudock.

A mass of Christian burial will be at Saint Mary’s RC Church, at 1300 Northern Blvd, Manhasset on Wednesday, February 21st, at 10:15 am with Interment to follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that mass cards or donations be made to Saint Mary’s Church, Manhasset, in her name, as she was a devout Catholic who loved her faith and church.
