Obituary of Chrysi K. Notskas

Please share a memory of Chrysi to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved, Chrysi K. Notskas, 74, passed away with loved ones by her side on October 22, 2023 in her home in Garden City, NY. Chrysi bravely fought cancer for approximately 15 years. Daughter of Cleopas and Olga Theodoulou, devoted wife to her husband of 45 years, Evan Notskas, beloved mom to her daughter, Olga Theocharis, and her husband, Thanasi Theocharis, and adoring grandmother to her 8-month-old grandson, Evandros.  Loving sister of Lefkou Kleopa, Neo Cleopa, Theo Theodoulidis, Charalambos Theodoulou, Theosevis Fereos, Maria Ferra, Argyris Cleopa and predeceased Ifigenia Kleopa. She was a very special aunt to her nephews and nieces whom she adored. Beloved by countless cousins, neighbors, friends, and students, Chrysi lived a remarkable life defined by her love and care for others.

Chrysi was born on January 26,1949 in Ayia Marina, Chrysochou, Cyprus. The sixth of nine siblings, Chrysi was raised in Cyprus where she attended the Elementary School of her village and the High School of Polis.

At age 18, Chrysi came to the United States as a foreign student to study mathematics at Adelphi University and Long Island University, where she earned bachelors and masters degrees.  While a student, Chrysi was a member of the student Organization of Greek Cypriot Students in America and won the title of Miss Cyprus-America.

After graduation, Chrysi was immediately hired by the Half Hollow Hills School District on Long Island as a high school math teacher. A cherished colleague, calculus teacher, and mentor at Half Hollow Hills, Chrysi adored her students and cherished her role teaching thousands of young people across her 30 plus year teaching career.

Chrysi was appointed Director of the Academic Research Program at Half Hollow Hills- a position she held for about the last 10 years of her educational career.

She enjoyed helping her students succeed, pairing her students with research scientists at domestic and foreign institutions to do meaningful research during the summers. She would encourage and help students present their research findings in various competitions, including the Intel Science competition.  She coached and encouraged her students to apply for admission to the top universities, colleges and other well known institutions. Her mentees often kept in touch with Chrysi as they completed their education and became professionals.

Chrysi was an active member of the St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church and the Panpaphian Association of America.

An extremely caring and outgoing person, Chrysi endeavored to live a life of service to others. Her house in Garden City adopted an open-door policy for friends and family, many of whom called it home after traveling from Cyprus.

While Chrysi considered Long Island her home, she traveled to Cyprus every summer to spend time with family and friends. A seasoned traveler, Chrysi also enjoyed visiting foreign countries like France, Italy, and Japan.

Chrysi will be missed tremendously and she will live in our hearts forever.
