Obituary of Mario Lubicich

Please share a memory of Mario to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

We are saddened by the loss of our dear Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Mario Lubicich.

Mario immigrated to the United States in 1948, from a small town on the Istrian peninsula of Italy (that is now part of Croatia). He was the embodiment of the American dream. He came to this country with nothing but his wits, his charm, and his work ethic. Mario was in the restaurant business his entire life. He started as a young man by washing dishes, then learning how to cook, until he was able to open his own restaurant in midtown Manhattan, Mario’s Seafood. He retired in 2002 after many successful years.

Mario married his wife Ljubica (nee Blitvich) in June 1957 and together they raised their three children, Susan, MaryAnn and Paul in Bayside, Queens. Ljubica pre-deceased him in 2018, and he sorely missed her. Mario loved to see the family grow, with the marriage of his children: Susan to Fred Camerata, MaryAnn to Robert Spitz and Paul to Lorraine Conti, and arrival of his grandchildren, Joseph Camerata, Kristin and Bobby Spitz, and Paul, Sarah and Caroline Lubicich.

He adored his grandchildren and was often talking about their accomplishments to anyone who would stand still long enough. His oldest grandchild, Joey, married Lindsay Pistilli in 2016, and Mario was over the moon with happiness upon the arrival of his great-grandsons Mario, Giuseppe, and Frankie Camerata.

Mario lived a full life over his 98 years. He leaves behind many relatives and friends who remember his warm friendliness, his easy smile, and charming personality.

We are comforted to know he is now at peace. He will always be in our hearts.
