Bob English of Sands Point, NY died on April 16th, at the age of 83.
Bob graduated from Bishop Loughlin HS and Manhattan College, where he was part of the mile relay team that held the US record, won multiple Penn relays, and was undefeated. He is a member of both school's Hall of Fame. Post college, he joined the US Marine Corps., where he was an officer for ten years and attained the rank of Captain. Bob started his career with the NY Telephone Co., transitioned to selling insurance with Mutual of NY, and then moved his family to Michigan to enter the investment industry with Bache & Co. Returning to NY, he became a partner at Neuberger & Berman until his retirement.
Bob was an active philanthropist, especially involved with Manhattan College, where he was a member of the Board of Trustees, Covenant House, the Wounded Marine Semper Fi Fund, Port Washington PYA, and various other local charities.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Patsy, his four children, and his nine grandchildren. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Marine Semper Fi Fund. (www.semperfifund.org )
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 21st @ 10am at the Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, 263 Mulberry St., NYC.
