Obituary of Harry Zuvekas

Please share a memory of Harry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Harry Zuvekas passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his family on February 4, at the age of 89. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Louise, and his two children Elizabeth and Samuel (Bobby) and his wife Margaret and grandchildren Xavier and Elena.

A native New Yorker, he attended Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan and graduated from New York University School of Business.

He proudly served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany.

After a business career spanning over 4 decades, Harry retired as President of Scio Shipping Inc. in 1999.

Harry was a founding member and past President of the Archangel Michael Church.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Order of AHEPA.

Harry was an avid NY Sports fan. As a youth he was passionate about the Brooklyn Dodgers. Heartbroken with their move to LA, he changed allegiance to the Mets (never the Yankees). He loved the NY Giants and sadly the NY Knicks as well.  Really if there was ever a sport on TV he would watch it.

Harry and his family lived in their home in Manhasset for 52 years. He enjoyed spending time at Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club where he was a longtime member.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Harry to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Port Washington
