Obituary of Doris J. Denihan

Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Doris Joan Denihan, 99, of Plandome, New York, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of July 27th, 2021. Doris was the most strong-willed of women, a true matriarch of the Denihan family, and valued life through all of its hardships and glories until the very end. “Your health is your wealth” was a favorite saying and could not be more reflective of the way she lived, always valuing her life, her body, and her mind with the utmost diligence and love. She took care of herself, loved herself, and, not surprisingly, extended that deep love and care to her dearest ones, unrelentingly. Doris was a proud and dedicated member of St. Mary’s Parish for sixty years and a longtime member of The Rosary Society.

Doris was the cherished wife of the late Michael (Griff) Denihan and caring mother to the late Kevin Denihan. She is survived by her loving children Dennis (Eileen), Deborah, Richard, and Michael (Yuna). She was the beloved grandmother to Dennis, Ryan, and Brendan; Leslie, Kevin, Meredith, and Kelly; Sean and Lauren; Michelle and Collin; and Heather and Shannan. Doris also had nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Doris will be remembered for her amazing wit, grace, charity, generosity of spirit, and tireless devotion to her family. She was a fantastic cook, her Sunday and holiday dinners being appreciated, enjoyed, and looked forward to by family and friends alike. Doris loved a good laugh, leaving behind smiles on the faces of loved ones who have endless stories to remember her and her humor by. She has undoubtedly taught by example to many what it means to be selfless, while also reminding us all to laugh a little here, and smile a little there. Her loving memory will be held within the hearts of the Denihan family for generations to come.
