Obituary of Andreas Argyropoulos

Please share a memory of Andreas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Thursday, January 28th, 2021, the Argyropoulos family lost their patriarch, Andreas Argyropoulos at the age of 89 in New York where he lived for the past 55 years. Andreas Argyropoulos, son of Philip and Efstathea Argyropoulos was born in Amaliada, Greece on January 26, 1932. He was one of five siblings, Spiros, Lola, Panagiota, and is survived by his youngest brother, Kostantinos. Andreas is survived by his wife, Nikoletta, affectionately known as, “Letta,” his son, Philip, his daughter, Barbara, his daughter in law, Diane, his son in law, Liam, as well as his greatest pride and joy, his grandchildren, Nicolette, Evette, Stephanie, Nikoletta, and Andreas. A committed and loving husband, father, and grandfather, “Papou,” he adored Letta until the end, always telling her how much he loved her and how beautiful she is their entire life together. His ultimate goal was to be surrounded by his family, and he was able to spend his last years living with one of his two children and being nearby his five grandchildren. Charismatic, magnanimous and talented, Andreas Argyropoulos seemed able to do most anything. In addition to being a devoted husband and father, Andreas loved to dance, sing, cook, build, garden and read. You name it, he always had his hands and his mind working on nearly everything. He grew up cooking for his family and would become a chef while in the Greek military. His cooking and his warm, outgoing personality easily drew people to him. He excelled at taking a dish to its next level, and aimed to become an accomplished chef. When Andreas left a turbulent Greece in 1965 for the United States, he left behind a successful restaurant and a bar and a home for his family to run in his absence. Arriving in New York City, he worked simultaneous restaurant jobs, and soon became head chef at the famous Cattleman Palace in midtown Manhattan. Within a couple of short years, Andreas had purchased his own restaurant. A subsequent purchase of a multi-family building in Queens established the start of many successful building projects and businesses throughout New York City during his lifetime. Maintaining his connection to home and family in Greece, he purchased a residence in Athens and built a villa in his home town of Karthamas. In Karthamas, on his childhood property, he planted olive trees and then grew his farm to include more land on the same mountain, planting hundreds more with his own hands. He was a pillar in the community, employing local residents, and who helped many achieve their dreams along the way. He was the head of many organizations that included many within the Greek Orthodox Church organizations, as well as other Greek social and professional organizations. Visitation will be held between 4-8pm at Fairchild Funeral Chapel 1570 Northern Blvd in Manhasset, New York on Wednesday, February 3rd. The Funeral service will take place at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Resurrection in Brookville, New York on Thursday February 4th at 10am with interment to follow at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington, New York.
