Obituary of Frank J. Tasco

Frank J. Tasco , 93, died December 12, 2020, with his devoted family by his side in Palm City, Florida. He will be remembered by his loving wife of 66 years, Edwardine; his three daughters, Jill (Dan), Lisbeth (Alan) and Diana; and his grandchildren, Michael, Emily, Georgia, Kristen (Felipe), Ellie, Jack (Nina), Nicholas and Dylan. Frank had an illustrious 38-year career at Marsh & McLennan Companies. He was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1984, leading the world’s largest insurance brokerage company, until his retirement in 1992. He held a number of directorships at other companies, including Travelers Group, Borden, Axis Capital and New York Telephone Company. In addition to being sought after as an astute corporate leader, Frank was dedicated to philanthropic efforts, both nationally and internationally. He was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to the Presidential Drug Advisory Council. He was also the founder of New York Drugs Don’t Work, Chairman of Phoenix House, Chairman of St. Francis Hospital, a trustee of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund, as well as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, New York Stock Exchange’s Listed Companies Advisory Committee, the Business Counsel for the United Nations and the Lincoln Center Consolidated Corporate Fund Leadership Committee. Frank joined the Navy at age 17 during the second world war to serve as a medical corpsman. As a 1949 graduate of New York University, he went on to become one of the leading trustees and a prominent patron of his alma mater. Manhasset, New York is where he and Edwardine called home for over 50 years and their three daughters followed in their footsteps, raising their families there as well. In 1990, they established a southern retreat in Florida for his treasured family to enjoy with them. Frank remained modest and humble throughout his life, known not only for his sharp business acumen and natural leadership abilities, but also for his gift of making each and every person he encountered feel like the most important person in the room. Additionally, Frank had a sharp-witted sense of humor that was inexhaustible even during the most trying times. His wit paired with his competitive drive were especially evident on the golf course, where he claimed to find the secret to the game almost weekly. Frank had a lifelong passion for golf, and was lucky enough to play on top courses around the world. But most notably, Frank was a truly devoted husband to his wife, who was the love of his life and he the love of hers. They shared a dream life together traveling the world, and left an unquestionable impact on more people than they will ever know. There is no measure to the loss of this respected and cherished man and he will be missed by all who knew him. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Frank was the former Chairman of the Board of St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn, New York and donations are welcome in honor of him.
