Obituary of Emil V. "Al" Cianciulli

Emil V. Cianciulli graduated from Hofstra University, served in the Army in Korea and received a Bronze Star. He then obtained a Law Degree from Fordham University and practiced law for over 50 years. He was a founding partner and managing attorney of the firm now known as Meyer Suozzi English & Klein, P.C. He left to serve as President of a helicopter company during its Chapter 11 reorganization. After bringing the Company out of Chapter 11 he established the firm of Cianciulli, Meng & Panos (n/k/a Meng & Reznak) and was General Counsel to Hofstra University for over ten years. He served as Vice President of the Great Neck Board of Education, Trustee and Chair of the Board of Trustees of Hofstra University and was Chair Emeritus. He had a strong commitment to Educational and Community service having served as Associate Trustee of North Shore University Hospital and St. Francis Hospital, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Long Island Business Development Council. In addition to numerous awards from Hofstra University he was presented with the Brotherhood Award of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the Allard K. Lowenstein Award of the American Jewish Congress, the Distinguished Service Award from the Dante Foundation, the Award of Excellence from the Italian Tribune as a Distinguished American and the Nassau Suffolk Mental Health Association’s Citizen Award for Outstanding Service.

He is survived by his wife, Clare Knowles, his daughter, Valery Smith (JD), Grandchildren Tara (William), Jay and Stephen and a great grandchild, Emily. His son Christopher predeceased him.

On Thursday from 3-8pm the family will meet friends and family at Fairchild Funeral Chapel 1570 Northern Blvd., Manhasset, NY. The Funeral Mass is at St. Mary’s Church in Manhasset on Friday at 11:15 am with Interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
