Obituary of Marta Perez Mejido

Please share a memory of Marta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marta Perez Mejido was born in Havana, Cuba on July 19, 1944. She spent a happy childhood alongside her parents and sister Laura at their home in Havana. Marta attended La Immaculada Primary & Secondary School, where she excelled in her studies and demonstrated her unique ability to lead and nourish strong social relationships - a trend that continued throughout her professional and social life.  In 1959, Marta met her future husband, Jesus Perez Caro, at a Sweet 15 party. They spent their last two years in Cuba as a teenage couple. After becoming disillusioned with political events on the island, they joined the Cuban Diaspora of the early 1960s alongside Marta’s sister. A few years later, Marta’s parents followed their daughters to the United States.

Marta and Jesus married in 1969 and moved to Port Washington in 1978. Marta formed an incredible amount of relationships in Port Washington & Manhasset - an area where she absolutely loved raising her family.

Marta’s professional career in the US included 25+ years at Pan American & Delta Airlines followed by her second career in real estate. Her work at Pan American allowed Marta and Jesus to travel the world. Traveling and enjoying international cultures was a true passion of hers.

Marta fought a hard battle with Alzheimer’s over the last few years. Her zest for life lives on in her daughters, Amanda and Alysa and her four granchildren.
