Obituary of Martha Bartone

Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Martha Lydia Bartone, daughter of the late Sarah and Morris Cook of Greenwich, New Jersey, will be laid to rest on Thursday, May 24, 2018, beside her beloved son, Joseph Bartone, at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, in St. James, New York.

Martha led a full life, surrounded by family and friends.  She was a savvy business woman, dedicating her life to New York Paving, Long Island City, New York, for more than 41 years.

During her long and active life Martha created a tribute to her friend and counsellor, the late Fr. Fred Lawrence, with the formation of The Father Fred Memorial Golf Tournament, over 25 years ago, which continues today.  She has, with the generosity of her many business associates, family and friends raised over 1.6 million dollars for Trinity Missions in his honor.

Martha was a casino fanatic, animal lover, gardener, theatre attendee, avid traveler, especially partial to cruising.  She was also a golf enthusiast, and a long-time devotee to Our Blessed Mother, Mary.  She was happiest when spending time with her 8 grandchildren, Joseph Bartone, Alexandra Bartone, Lydia Marie Sarro, Jenelle Bartone, Michael Sarro, Jordyn Bartone, Anthony Bartone,  and Jack Bartone, each of whom she loved dearly.

Martha was predeceased by all of her 5 siblings, Paul, Mable, Daniel, John and Frank, but survived by many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She will be missed more than words can adequately express, but her legacy continues with her surviving children, Anthony Bartone (Sia), Michael Bartone (Candace) and Diane Bartone-Sarro (Joseph), all actively engaged in the family business, and devoted to their mother until the end.
