Obituary of Alessandra Candela

Please share a memory of Alessandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alessandra Candela, a resident of Port Washington, died on Sunday, June 18th surrounded by her family.

Born in 1932 in Volturara Irpina, Italy and came to America as a young mother.  Alessandra, 84 years of age, was the beloved wife of Giulio Candela. She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

She is survived by her two children Lydia Verni and Al Candela and her daughter-in-law Amy Candela. Lydia is a resident of Port Washington and Al and Amy reside in Huntington, New York.  Her sisters, Giulia Mele brother-in-law Antonio and Dolores Delpercio brother-in-law Michael all residing in Port Washington.  Here brothers Rafael Piccardo sister-in-law Abelina and Fiore Piccardo sister-in-law Margarita all residing in Italy.

Alessandra’s life was her family; She loved holidays, family get-togethers and any chance to spend time with her family.  She would spend hours cooking and preparing delicious homemade Italian food for her company and there was always enough to take home. She was very proud of her family and was excited to become “Nonni” to her three granddaughters Nicole, Amanda and Jacqueline and two grandsons David and Steven along with her four great granddaughters Alessandra, Madelyn, Emilie and Giuliana. She was also a wonderfully gifted seamstress using her skills professionally as well as with the family.  Alessandra was an incredibly giving, gentle, simple and loving person— never thinking of herself but always how she could help others. At her core was her faith in God and the Saints in heaven watching over us, she now joins them as our special angel.

She was quite literally the rock that our entire family revolved around, the center of our universe.  We cannot replace the love that only she gave and gave so perfectly.  She touched so many and will be remembered fondly for the good she brought to all…..
