It is with deep sadness we announce that Lisa Hills Carr, 59, of Manhasset, passed away on Friday, January 6th after a long illness.
Lisa was born on January 20, 1963, to June and Jim Hills in Syosset, NY and was a long- time resident of Centre Island in Oyster Bay. Lisa graduated from Portledge School in 1981. She went on to study English at SUNY Cortland and received her Master’s in Education from LIU Post College in Brookville, NY in 1989.
After obtaining her Master’s she took a job teaching first grade at East Hills Elementary school in the Roslyn School district. She taught for 10 years in the district before retiring to raise her children and tend to her parents. Lisa was a teacher at heart and loved her time with her students. It brought her joy and cherished memories. Lisa continued her love of educating children by teaching Sunday school in her parish at Christ Church, Manhasset NY, for over 20 years. She was a devoted member of the Christ Church family and for several years ran the beloved annual Christmas Pageant.
The Christmas pageant was her annual work of love. She had played Mary as a young girl in the pageant at Christ Church in Oyster Bay, where the family were longtime members before moving to Manhasset. She brought her love of that childhood event and some of its old traditions, especially the parade of live animals to the altar, which delighted all in attendance.
In 1988, Lisa met Tim at the wedding of dear friends, Tom, and Maureen Downes, and they were married the following July. They lived in Oyster Bay before moving to Manhasset to be with, and care for, her dad. Lisa was loving and devoted, caring for her brother, mother, and dad, but her devotion to her dad was a defining part of Lisa. Her care and unwavering dedication to him for so many years were an inspiration to both family and friends.
Lisa was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She loved her children with her whole heart and worked tirelessly to love and care for them as she was caring for her dad. She also loved her childhood, college and work friends who were so special to her. She was always making sure those family and friends received a card on birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. She was fun, so witty and sassy, loved her music, and was always up for a good time and good laughs with friends. She was also deeply in tune to the heartaches and troubles of others and was always right there in times of need. She was also incredibly creative as well, which showed when she began her handbag business, Second Wind, designing and having made an exquisite array of purses, handbags, and accessories.
Lisa was predeceased by her brother Gregory, her mother June, and her father Jim Hills. She is survived by her husband Tim Carr, and her children James, Killian, and Emma.
A wake will be held at Fairchild Sons, Manhasset, on Friday January 13th, 2023, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm & 6:00pm - 8:00pm.
A Service of Holy Eucharist Rite I with Burial Office for Lisa will be held on Saturday January 14th, 2023, at 10:00am at Christ Church.
