Margaret Eleanor "Maggie" Whitely

Margaret Dickinson Whitely (Maggie/Gammy) passed away peacefully with her entire family by her side on February 10th, 2022.

Maggie was a life-long resident of her beloved Port Washington graduating from Schreiber High School.

In her early years as a Mom, she was actively involved in the life and support of her seven children, serving as a St Peter’s volunteer and a Cub Scout Den Mother.
 
In 1985, she joined the Nassau Ilustrated News eventually being promoted to Editor. She retired in 2012 and was lauded by the New Hyde Park Village Board for her extraordinary work in the NHP community writing and promoting community events. Known as the  "Lady with the Hats", New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce President Mark Laytin shared that “Maggie was always there whether we told her something was happening or not, she found out, she covered it whether it was at night, in the morning, or on the weekend, she was there spreading the word about New Hyde Park, which we all love”. 
Maggie’s  true loves of her life were her seven children, their spouses and her eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.   

Maggie adored "Whitely Vacation Week” each July in Montauk where the entire family would gather. She never missed a family event whether a first communion, birthday party or graduation. 

She shared a deep Catholic faith with her family and attended daily Mass for her entire adult life.   

Maggie leaves behind a legacy that will continue for many generations to come.

She is survived by her children, Pat Whitely  (George Shoffner)  Ellen ( Cory) Slicklen, JR ( Karen) Whitely Meg (Paul) Bloshuk, Paul Whitely, Andrew Whitely ( Wendy Herrick) and Monica (Stephen) Levy, her grandchildren, CJ ( Vivien) Slicklen.
SaraMay (Alex) Cherami,  Joesph Whitely, Amanda Bloshuk,  Grace Slicklen, Paul Bloshuk  Jr., Jack Slicklen, Jacqueline Whitely,  Megan Shoffner, Liam Whitely,  and Allie Levy and her three great grandchildren, Charlie and  Austin Slicklen and   Scarlet Cherami.  Maggie was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Dickinson.

A mass of the Resurrection will be held Saturday, March 5th, 9:30am at St. Peter of Alcantara Church in Port Washington, New York.
