Obituary of Mary Toppmeyer

Mary Toppmeyer (nee Hagopian), devoted wife and mother, passed away on August 18, 2017 with family at her side. She was born on December 6, 1928 in Manhattan, New York. She was a graduate of Walton High School. She received a B.A. degree in Psychology from Hunter College. She subsequently received her masters in clinical psychology at the University of Illinois where she met her loving and devoted husband of 48 years.  On May 3, 1953, she married Robert B. Toppmeyer, a World War II veteran who preceded her in death in 2002.


Mary was very much a progressive.  After receiving her masters, she decided to pursue a career in marketing and marketing research and became an accomplished businesswoman owning her own company.  She also balanced a demanding career while being a devoted wife and mother. 


Her parents, Krekor Hagopian and Flora Hagopian and her sister, Margie Berglind, preceded Mary in death. Mary is survived by her children, Robert B. Toppmeyer, Jr., and Deborah Toppmeyer (Robert Hilkert) and her two loving grandchildren, Gregory Hilkert and Eric Hilkert. 


Friends will be received on August 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Fairchild and Sons Funeral Home, 1570 Northern Blvd., Manhasset NY. The funeral will be held Monday 10 am at  the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 12 Franklin Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050 (516) 767-0603.  Lunch to follow at 12:30 pm at the Port Washington Yacht Club 1 Yacht Club Dr. Port Washington, NY 11050
