Obituary of Manuel J. Karabatos

Menelaos Karabatos of Brooklyn, NY, age 96, passed away on March 15th, 2017. He was born to Bessie and John Karabatos in Providence, Rhode Island, on December 31st, 1920. He married the late Sophie Yeavasis in 1955, and raised his two children in Brooklyn, New York, where he owned the Apollo Military Manufacturing Company. Throughout his life, Menelaos received numerous accolades. Menelaos served in both WWII and the Korean War, where he earned a Silver Star among many other distinctions. He was named an honorary Mayor of Bay Ridge in 1963. In 1965, he was awarded the Order of Ahepa for his dedication and devotion to the James Karabatos Chapter. Menelaos is survived by his two children, John (Rosalie) and Elena (Bryan), as well as his four grandchildren, Nikolas, Sofia, Helen, and James. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 17th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at the Fairchild Funeral Chapel, 1570 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset New York, 11030. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18 at 10:30 am at the Church of the Holy Resurrection, 1400 Cedar Swap Road, Brookville New York, 11545, with a lunch to follow at 167 Harbor Acres Road, Sands? Point, New York 11050.
