Obituary of James A. Tomlinson

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James A. Tomlinson, a long-time resident and former Mayor of the Village of Manorhaven, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Beloved and devoted husband of Ellen. Loving father of Jim (Rita), Kevin (Karen), Anne, Ellen Walsh (Greg) and Tom. Cherished grandfather of Jimmy, Kelly, Karolyne and Kristen. Dear brother of Fr. Brian, John (Diana), Thomas (Diana), Mary Moran (George) and Patrick (Gloria). Jim was predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth Webster (Robert) and Margaret Coughlin (Jim). Born in the Bronx, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (nee Kennelly). Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jim was a Korean War Veteran, a graduate of Iona College and Adelphi University and a Certified Public Accountant. He retired from the Long Island Rail Road in 1995 after serving over 24 years in the Finance Division. After retirement, Jim dedicated his time to public service as Trustee, Deputy Mayor and Zoning Board Chairman for the Village of Manorhaven. Throughout his life, his actions spoke louder than his words. His work ethic, his faith in God, his sacrifice for his family and community exemplified his integrity and purpose in his life and all those who knew him. His kindness and dedication to stand up for what’s right will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations to a memorial fund for James Tomlinson can be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Friary / Capuchin Franciscan Friars (Attn: Margaret) Box 809 in Union City, NJ 07087-0809.
