Obituary of Ronald W. Ronzoni

Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ronald W. Ronzoni, “Ron,” passed away peacefully on October 14, 2016, surrounded by his family. Ron was a resident of Asharoken and Port Washington. He was born on March 23, 1938, to Raymond and Olga Ronzoni. Ron was born and raised in Manhasset, where he resided for most of his life. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School (Class of 1956) and St. John’s University (Class of 1960). After graduating from college, Ron joined his family’s business, The Ronzoni Macaroni Co., Inc., in Long Island City. He was a member of the third generation of Ronzonis who worked for the firm and was Vice President in charge of Sales and continued to work for the firm through its sale to General Foods in 1984. Ron remained involved with the business at General Foods and was fortunate enough to retire at an early age to spend time with his family and friends and pursue his many interests. Ron was an avid tennis and platform tennis player, and was a long-time member of the Port Washington Yacht Club where he dedicated much of his energy in the affairs of the tennis programs at the club. Ron was a long-time member of the Long Island Platform Tennis Association (LIPTA) and served as its president for several years. Ron was a former active member of the Board of Directors and served on many committees of RotaCare, Inc., a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to facilitate free health care for the relief of pain and suffering to those on Long Island who have the most need and the least access to medical care. Besides his love of all-things tennis, which included yearly attendance at the U.S. Open, Ron also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and boating, and always looked forward to the annual St. Francis Hospital Brave Hearts fishing trip. Ron was an avid New York sports fan. His latest pursuit and passion was playing bridge. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Janice, his daughter Jeanine and her husband Matthew Haas and grandsons, Jordan and Troy, of Huntington Sta., and his two sons, Ron Jr. and granddaughter Marina, of Northport, and Michael and his wife Irene and grandchildren Madeline, Merrick, Katherine, and Eveline, of Cohasset, Massachusetts. Ron is the beloved brother of Ramona Carando of Springfield, Massachusetts, Ralph (Ginny) of Wellington, Florida, and Raymond Jr. (deceased). Loving brother-in-law to Mary, Joan, Neil (Randy), and Gail (Peter), and loved by many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary’s R.C. Church on Friday, October 21st, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron’s memory to RotaCare at www.rotacareny.org.
